I have been
teaching science for over 12 years. I have had the privilege of
teaching multiple science disciplines including Biology, Astronomy, Geology,
Marine Biology, and Project-based Science of the 21st Century in grades 7
through 12. During this time I had the opportunity to work with great
students, families, and staff that awarded me the Gold Star in Teaching.
In my teaching,
I put my students first. I plan lessons with the the desire to excite,
engage, and intrigue. This is possible as a result of my extensive
science background. I received a Bachelor of Science and Education
degree from Loras College and Masters in Science Education from the
University of Northern Iowa. My love of teaching is equal to my love
of learning. I continue to challenge myself through various graduate
classes and participating in summer research at local universities such as
Iowa State, UNI, Coe College, and Loras College through the National Science
Foundation. I also participated in a Reef Survey through the
Earthwatch Organization to bring my learning back to the classroom.
My goal in
teaching is to empower and excite students in learning about science.
I want
my classes to
provide students the eagerness to explore the world and prepare them with
rigorous skills needed to pursue future careers. I am very excited for
the privilege to work with such great students and staff. I am honored
to have been awarded this position to foster a love of science in young
minds, as if they are the minds of my own children.
